Bennet Dunkley, AIA, RIBA, LEED-AP - Vice President
Bennet has 16 years of experience working in New York Architectural firms running a wide variety of project types, from small refined beautifully finished residences, to large renovation projects and new buildings.
A well rounded Architect and a leader with a proven track record Bennet has a history of highly satisfied clients. Bennet began his career at the office of Smith-Miller and Hawkinson, where he spent 6 years honing his skills on high design projects for clients who had a keen eye for contemporary design. During his tenure at SMH he ran design projects for New Line Cinema, Woody Allen’s production offices and screening room, NJIT’s school of Architecture theater, as well as a variety of residential apartments and single family homes.
Next Bennet worked with Rafael Vinoly as the lead Architect of exterior design for the Van Andel Institute cancer research laboratory in Grand Rapids Michigan, this assignment represented a significant step up in responsibility from his previous projects, and Bennet met this responsibility with success by running the design team and consultants flawlessly, meeting the demanding schedule and executing a beautiful and technically outstanding project.
Bennet’s final stop before joining MJBAPC was Hillier’s New York office where he was Project Architect for the Bronx School of Law Government and Justice, an SCA commission. Like his Vinoly project this one was valued in excess of $200M and came with a rigorous schedule and challenging program, Bennet once again rose to the occasion and the project was a huge success.
These experiences gave Bennet exposure to high design, the challenges of construction, the ability to work with people, and the desire to take responsibility for his client’s needs very early on in his career. These qualities are what have made him the perfect fit for MJBAPC as a Principal, leading the office and preparing it for the years ahead.
His drive to provide clients with the very best service, with outstanding design and technical abilities have produced some of the firm’s best work to date. Notably, Bennet believes firmly in a process of transparent communication with his clients, staff and consultant teams understanding how to share information efficiently avoiding errors and omissions all to common elsewhere in the industry.
Bennet received his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1993 from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is currently licensed in the State of New York. He regularly sits on design reviews for Architecture students at N.J.I.T. and New York’s City College. Bennet is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and has an active interest in sustainable design as a US Green Building Council accredited professional (LEED-AP).
